  • 2009 Fisker Karma

When the EPA's official MPG figures were released for the 2012 Fisker Karma a few days ago, we can't have been the only ones a little disappointed with the 20 MPG figure on gasoline and 52 MPG equivalent in EV mode. There were even suggestions the low 20 MPG rating on gasoline could hurt the DoE car loan program that helps fund the development of low energy vehicles. Fisker appears to be worried potential customers would be disappointed too and has quickly responded to the sticker rating on its Facebook page. "We do not believe that the label communicates the entire story", explains Fisker...

Which Cars Are Getting Traded In For Electric Cars? We Find Out

In the last nine months, we’ve seen over 10,000 plug-in cars sold in the U.S. alone, with Nissan taking the lion’s share of new plug-in car sales with its 2011/12 Nissan Leaf. Mass-produced electric cars still very much a niche market, so anyone buying one can be legitimately thought of...

Could Fisker Karma's Low MPGs Hurt DoE Car-Tech Loan Program?

Fisker Automotive may have sensed that the 20-mpg EPA rating on their 2012 Karma electric sport sedan was not good news. The company simply omitted the statistic from their press release announcing that the EPA had legally certified the Karma--meaning it can now be sold to retail buyers. Fisker...

Electric-Car Charging Networks: Don't Use 'Em To Travel Far, Says Company

But which of the two main plug-in hybrids on offer today -- the 2012 Chevrolet Volt and 2012 Toyota Prius -- offer you the cheapest running costs, and why? As we’ve said before, that depends on how often you make longer trips, but now Pike Research has stepped in with the definitive answer. The 2012 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is more cost effective...

  • 2011 Zero DS Electric Motorcycle Joins Met Police

Think of police and motorcycles, and you probably think of highway patrol officers riding large, heavy Harley Davidsons like the 2012 Electra Glide. In Europe, most police departments make use of specially-made police motorcycles from companies like BMW or Honda, but yesterday officers in London, England welcomed a smaller motorcycle to their squad -- the all-electric 2011 Zero DS. Lightweight and easy to handle, the 2011 Zero DS might make an excellent machine for officers wanting to chase criminals along London’s miles of canal paths, footpaths and Royal parks, but the Metropolitan...
