Every driver of a plug-in hybrid electric car eventually wants to drive more on electricity and less on gasoline. Wouldn't it be nice if the car could "know" that it was close to its destination, where it would be recharged? That's exactly what Ford has built into its new 2013 Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid hatchback. (It'll also most likely appear on the upcoming 2013 Ford Fusion Energi as well.) The...

New York City and Long Island today instituted temporary fuel rationing, with drivers only allowed to buy gasoline on alternate days. Starting at 6 am tomorrow, vehicles with odd numbers on their license plates can buy fuel on odd-numbered days; even numbers can buy on even-numbered days. The two counties on Long Island, Suffolk and Nassau, will start the same program tomorrow at 5 pm. The move follows similar rules in New Jersey, where drivers are still waiting in long lines to fuel their cars in many parts of the state. Toyota has hinted at the launch of an electric sports car in the past, and even has a couple of prototypes out testing, including one based on its legendary 2000GT. However, ask Toyota if it plans to launch an electric version of its GT 86 (sold here as the Scion FR-S), its budget rear-wheel drive sports car aimed at purists, and they’ll probably scoff at the idea.
