Last November, Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia found themselves in hot, and rather deep water. An EPA investigation found each manufacturer had overstated its gas mileage window stickers on 13 models--some by as much as 6 mpg. Hyundai has now agreed to settle lawsuits that followed the revelations, reports Automotive News. Each manufacturer quickly apologized and agreed to compensate owners for the mis-stated mileage, but lawsuits followed in several states. These were later consolidated into a single suit in a Los Angeles federal court. Reimbursement plans were put in place in December...

Chances are, somebody reading this lives in a fairly cold climate. You also probably want to save money on fuel, and may have considered diesel. But have you considered the effect that cold weather might have on a diesel vehicle? One tale from The Car Guide shows why diesel vehicles may not be your first choice in very cold climates. Testing Mercedes-Benz Sprinter diesel cargo vans, a group of reviewers encountered several difficulties due to the excessive cold of the Alaskan Arctic Circle--with temperatures lower than -40F on several occasions. Testing only goes so far... There was a time...

Driverless Nissan Leaf: Oxford University Wants To Reduce System's Cost
It's early days for both electric vehicles and autonomous cars, but the technology for the two seems to go hand-in-hand. After all, what better way to be whizzed home after a hard day at work than in a smooth, quiet, green, and entirely autonomous electric car? It'd be like living in the future...

Diesel Car Owners Won't Like Virginia's Road Tax Plan Either
Last month, Virginia governor Bob McDonnell proposed dropping the state's tax on gasoline, the revenue from which has become stagnant in recent years. To make up for axing the state's gas tax, revenue would have to come from elsewhere--extra sales tax, new car registration fees, and a new $100...

One DC Quick-Charge Station For Every Four Electric Cars! But, Where?
Imagine a paradise for electric-car drivers, where half the car's cost is subsidized and there's a nationwide network of DC quick-charging stations so plentiful that there's one for every four cars. Such a place exists, actually. It's called Estonia. The tiny country of 1.2 million people, nestled...

We hadn't driven a 2013 Nissan Sentra, the all-new compact sedan, until last week. And our drive was hardly representative, since we spent the bulk of it in the peculiar world of freeway traffic in Los Angeles. That means traffic moving at average speeds of anywhere from 60 to 85 mph, with occasional--or more than occasional--snarls that dropped speeds to 30 mph or less, frequently right down to zero, in one lane or another. It's far from steady-state highway driving, since brisk acceleration is required to avoid getting a large sport-utility vehicle or silver luxury sedan (usually driven by...

Chreos Luxury Electric Car: '621-Mile Range'... Supposedly
There's a train of thought that goes thus: If you're going to launch an electric concept car, you may as well give it outrageous performance and range statistics as it'll never see the light of day anyway, and nobody can prove you wrong. Someone at Silex Power clearly thinks along similar lines, as...

Volkswagen Up Minicar To Get XL1's Ultra-Frugal Drivetrain?
The Volkswagen Up is one of our favorite 'forbidden fruit' cars. Sold in Europe, it's a rival to vehicles like the Chevrolet Spark in the 'A' segment. Here you are: These are the first photos of the new 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Yep, that's right: Cherokee. No, not Grand Cherokee. Plain old Cherokee, the revival of a name that vanished (in the U.S.) a decade ago, although it's lived on in Europe. The new 2014 Cherokee is Jeep's replacement for the old Jeep Liberty that was discontinued last year. It revives a well-loved name dating back to 1984 on what was arguably the first sport-utility vehicle sold in high volumes, kicking off the entire SUV craze and changing the face of U.S. cars forever. But the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is about as far from the...

Plenty of supercar makers are getting in on the electric car act, these days. Porsche, Ferrari and McLaren all have hybrids and plug-in hybrids on the way--McLaren's was revealed just the other day.
